Some ideas take their time to come round again
like some born in Lviv, 1919

a certain way of seeing space
an impression of an area

you could call it an
interpretation of need

we each of us has our own
idea of the value of desire

and we each of us have our own idea
of what form need or want takes

Rachman saw buildings differently
that's all: interpretation

of want, need, air, space, desire
all the stuff we build on

are built of

subsumed for a while by
other translations of space

all that composition of ideas
the collages of intellect

and that other stuff, call it
soul if you like, or mana

the stacking of forces in such
a way as to create a living

palimpsest, the slow triumph of us
as a whole which couldn't

last, of course, the old theories
came knocking, let out, dusted down

gone legitimate
grown rich as

we've remember the wrong
histories, told the wrong stories

the ones with causes
not the ones with ideas

the ideas which bide their time
